World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
